Hayal is a neighbor of the Greening the Desert site and has a young family with seven children. Their home has an established permaculture site with a distinct food forest. They have chickens adding fertility to the system. They’ve added some solar energy. There are two production gardens, recently cultivated wicking beds, and few beehives around. The winter garden is underway and generates income for the family. The food forest is very straightforward with drip irrigation throughout, micro-swales, and a composting system. This is a true local system with real production, but aside from the permaculture cash crop scenario, sections of the garden are also aesthetic. There is even a chlorine-free swimming pool that is filled with irrigation water for few days, after which it is pumped into the garden, and the pool is filled again so the kids can swim.
